Timmer, UMD Pummel Sioux Falls with 31 Runs to Sweep Cougars

Serena Timmer and the University of Minnesota Duluth brought out the lumbar to wallop the University of Sioux Falls to the tune of 31 runs in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Sunday in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Timmer, the native of Appleton, Wis., had her best day as a Bulldog at the dish as she combined to go 6-for-8 with four doubles, a home run -- her third of the season -- to go along with six RBI and seven runs in the double header.

UMD defeated the Cougars 18-9 in the opener and won 13-5 in six innings in game two. The Bulldogs racked up a season-high 18 runs and recorded their third straight double-digit run performance. With the sweep, UMD jumps to 31-15 overall and 11-7 in the NSIC.

In the last three games UMD has put up 46 runs on 43 hits. The 46 runs during a three-game stint are the most runs by the Bulldogs dating back to the 2018 season when UMD put up 46 runs with 10, 14, and 22 runs in consecutive outings.

After putting an exclamation mark yesterday with 15 runs on Minnesota State University, Mankato, UMD put up 18 runs the following game in the opener versus Sioux Falls. Those 33 runs in back-to-back games are the most dating back to April 11, 2021 when the Bulldogs put up that exact total in the double header sweep of the University of Mary. Oddly, UMD also put up 18 runs that day which was the last time they put up that many runs in a single game.

Sioux Falls had no answer to the barrage as the Bulldogs opened up the scoring in the every first inning. The Cougars allowed four runs in the first, another four in the fourth and an astounding seven runs in the seventh to feature the heavy inning bombardments.

Timmer was the spark plug as she went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a homer and a career-high five RBI. Freshman infielder Taryn Christopher ripped off four RBI, also a career best for the rookie. Christopher also plucked her second homer of the season one day after gathering her first collegiate shot against the Mavericks.

The Cougars again fell into another early deficit as junior outfielder Morgan McMillan and senior infielder Nicole Schmitt led off game two with back-to-back homers. Sophomore infielder Khendal Johnson and sophomore designated player Billi Connell each had three hits a piece to pace the Bulldogs in the second game of the double dip. It was a season and career best for both Johnson and Connell.

The Bulldogs are back home at James S. Malosky Stadium for their final two doubleheader home games of the 2025 season. An action-packed weekend features Mandy Mutula Day, Alumni Weekend and Senior Day to conclude the home slate. Those weekend bouts will be on Friday and Saturday against Northern State University and Minnesota State University-Moorhead.
