The University of Minnesota Duluth baseball team closed out their three game series with the Northern State University Wolves this afternoon, falling 15-4 in seven innings on the road in Aberdeen, SD.
Â
Final Score: UMD (4) - NSU (15)
Â
The Bulldogs were hot to start the afternoon, gaining an early 1-0 lead on a solo home run from Joey Flom in the very first at bat of the game.
Â
The NSU bats shot into action in response, collecting two separate two-run home runs in the bottom of the first and third innings. They would earn another two run home run in the bottom of the fourth, pairing it with a solo home run to gain a 7-1 lead by the end of the inning.
Â
The Wolves added another four runs in the bottom of the fifth on a pair of two RBI base hits, building their lead to double digits after five.
Â
The advantage continued to expand in the bottom of the sixth with the Wolves hitting a leadoff home run to start the inning and a three run home run to move ahead by 14 runs.
Â
A leadoff base hit from Garrett Stauffacher and a subsequent double from Kade Peloquin gave the Bulldogs early runners in scoring position in the top of the seventh.Â
Â
Henry Bushey capitalized on the situation, driving both runners across home plate with a double out to the left field grass. In the next at bat, Nick Thompson would drive Bushey home on a RBI base hit past the shortstop.Â
Â
The three runs for the Bulldogs however were too little too late, as the game closed out 15-4 in favor of Northern State.
