The University of Minnesota Duluth baseball team closed out their four game series against the Minot State University Beavers this afternoon, securing a 13-3 victory in the nine inning NSIC conference contest before falling in the seven inning non-conference contest 6-5 to close out the doubleheader.
Â
Game One: UMD (13) - MISU (3)
Â
The Bulldogs got the offense going early in today's conference contest, tallying runs on a sacrifice fly from Nathan Rosenberg and back to back RBI doubles from Garrett Stauffacher and Kade Peloquin to take a 3-0 lead at the end of the first.
Â
UMD added a fourth run in the bottom of the second on an RBI single from Ethan Pettis before heading into the third, which started Rosenberg going yard with a no-doubter over the left field wall. Peloquin was quick to match with a solo home run of his own, making it an early 6-0 advantage for the Bulldogs. Pettis and Sam Kliber would both drive runs in on RBI doubles before the end inning, building the lead to 8-0.
Â
The bottom of the fifth saw another five runs for the home team with an RBI base hit for Stauffacher and a two RBI base hit for Hayden Anthony combining with a pair of RBI doubles from Pettis and Gabe Richardson, launching the Bulldogs ahead 13-0.
Â
Runs in the final three innings for the Beavers on a trio of RBI hits were not enough as the Bulldogs took the game one victory, 13-3.
Â
Game Two: UMD (5) - MISU (6)
Â
Minot State was first on the board in today's non-conference contest, adding a run on a sacrifice fly out to the left fielder in the top of the first.
Â
UMD was quick to respond though, tallying two runs on a successful bunt from Troy Lynch that resulted in a throwing error from the MISU catcher and allowed Richardson and Thomas Hanson to score. The Bulldogs added one more on a sacrifice fly from Stauffacher before the end of the inning to take a 3-1 lead.
Â
Minot State tied things up in the top of the fourth, tallying runs on a two run home run by Noah Gutierrez. However, the lead would flip right back in favor of the Bulldogs as they would tally a run on an RBI double out to left field by Hanson.
Â
The Bulldogs added another run to their lead in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI fielder's choice from Lynch.Â
Â
Heading into the final inning of the contest, the Beavers took their first lead of the day with a trio of RBI base hits to shoot ahead by one.
Â
The Bulldogs were unable to tally any more runs in the bottom of the seventh, falling 6-5 in the final game of the series.
