The University of Minnesota Duluth baseball team closed out their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) weekend with a nine inning senior day matchup against the University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles this afternoon, falling 15-7 to close the three game series.
Â
Final Score: UMD (7) - UMC (15)
Â
The Golden Eagles were first on the board in this afternoon's tilt, tallying two RBIs on a base hit out to left field in the top of the first.
Â
The Bulldogs answered back in the bottom of the third, collecting their first run of the game on an RBI base hit from Nathan Rosenberg and another run on a bases loaded walk to take the lead. Hayden Anthony added another two runs to the board with a double off the center field wall before the end of the inning, pushing the Bulldogs ahead 4-2.
Â
UMC tied it back up in the top of the fourth, putting up back to back RBI base hits to even out the scoreline at 4-4.
Â
A scoreless fifth and sixth innings broke up the action before UMD would be able to move back into the lead, tallying a run on a sacrifice fly from Anthony to make it 5-4.
Â
However, the Golden Eagles flew back into the lead in the next half inning, collecting five runs on a trio of RBI hits and a wild pitch to the backstop to make it 9-5.
Â
An RBI groundout in the bottom of the eighth from Sam Kliber and a solo home run from Rosenberg in the ninth would not be enough as the Golden Eagles tallied another six runs in the top of the final inning, all but securing the 15-7 loss for home team.
