The University of Minnesota Duluth baseball team continued their four game road series against the Wayne State College Wildcats this afternoon, securing a 7-1 victory in game two of the day in their doubleheader split at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex.
Â
Game One: UMD (2) - WSC (3)
Â
Wayne State struck first in the opening game of the afternoon, putting the game's first run on the board after an attempt to steal third base resulted in a throwing error from the UMD catcher in the bottom of the fourth.
Â
The Wildcats added onto their lead in the bottom of the fifth, bringing the Bulldogs deficit to 3-0 on a two run RBI single down the left field line.
Â
UMD took their chance to respond offensively in the top of the sixth with Henry Bushey and Hayden Anthony both reaching on back to back lead off walks.Â
Â
A single paired with a throwing error from the center fielder for Joey Flom and a subsequent sacrifice fly from Gabe Richardson put two runs on the board for the Bulldogs, getting them back within one.
Â
The sixth inning runs for UMD would be too little too late though as game one finished 3-2 in favor of the Wildcats.
Â
Game Two: UMD (7) - WSC (1)
Â
A leadoff single for Flom put the Bulldogs in a position to get things going early in game two, with Nathan Rosenberg poking an RBI single out to the left field grass to score the first run in the top of the first.
Â
The Bulldogs continued rolling in the top of the second, collecting another run on an RBI double from Nick Thompson and another pair of runs on a two RBI single from Flom to launch UMD out to an early 4-0 lead.
Â
A sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth from Rosenberg scored one more for the Bulldogs before WSC took the chance to get on the board, pushing a run across home plate on an RBI single down the left field line.
Â
UMD added two more runs on a two RBI double from Troy Lynch in the top of the sixth before the end of the game, securing a 7-1 victory on day two in Wayne, Nebraska.
