A certain senior second baseman has a new moniker -- All-American
Nicole Schmitt.
The University of Minnesota Duluth softball's
Nicole Schmitt was minted the newest title Wednesday when she was name to the National Fastpitch Coaches Assocation All-American First Team. The Verona, Wis. native is the first Bulldog to be bestowed the citation since the 2018 trio of Hannah Schmoll, Becky Smith and Natalie Wright.
Schmitt became the eighth player in program history to earn the title of All-American, the ninth overall with Patty Becker earning NAIA All-American status in 1990 and 1991, including the other First Team accolade. She is now the program's fifth NFCA All-American and the program's lone NFCA First Team honoree.
Named to both the NFCA and the D2CCA All-Central Region clubs, Schmitt showcased one of the best individual performances the program has witnessed. She smashed four single-season program records as she holds the program records for home runs (18), RBI (69), total bases (148), and slugging percentage (.813) after a prestigious senior campaign. The three-time Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference First Team selection was also honored as UMD's Outstanding Senior Female Athlete of the Year and the NSIC Softball Outstanding Senior of the Year. The 2025 NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic with Distinction Award Winner is nationally ranked in Division II categories in RBIs (69; 5th), home runs (18; 6th), total bases (148; 9th), slugging percentage (.813; 14th), runs scored (60; 19th), hits (79; 28th), batting average (.434; 35th), and on-base percentage (.510; 37th).
