Peloquin Lifts Bulldogs Past Marauders with Ninth Inning Home Run, UMD Baseball Secures Sixth Seed for Upcoming NSIC Tournament

The University of Minnesota Duluth baseball team closed out their 2025 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) regular season schedule this afternoon, collecting a ninth inning two run home run from Kade Peloquin to move past the University of Mary Marauders 11-10 and secure the sixth seed in the upcoming NSIC tournament.

Final Score: UMD (11) - UM (10)

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first in today's matchup, collecting a pair of RBI singles from Troy Lynch and Garrett Stauffacher as well as a sacrifice fly from Gabe Richardson to take an early 3-0 lead.

The Marauders quickly matched the score though, tallying runs on a bases loaded sacrifice fly and a two run RBI double to tie things up at 3-3 by the end of the first inning.

Sam Kliber kept things going for the Bulldogs in the second, poking an RBI base hit back to the pitcher to give UMD a one run lead. Back to back RBI doubles from Nathan Rosenberg and Lynch added another two runs onto the board, giving the Bulldogs a 6-3 lead after two.

Another two runs on an RBI double from Kliber in the third would come across the plate before the Marauders took their chance to respond, tallying runs on a pair of RBI doubles of their own in the bottom of the inning to make it 8-5.

The first lead change came in the bottom of the fourth of the contest, with Mary swinging the game back in their favor with four runs on a pair of RBI base hits and a bases loaded fielder's choice situation.

Heading into the top of the fifth at a one run deficit, Kade Peloquin made his first statement of the game by going yard over the left field wall and tying up the battle at 9-9.

The Marauders took back the lead in the bottom of the seventh, tallying a run on another RBI base hit to put the Bulldogs back at a one run deficit.

As the Bulldogs closed in on their final two outs of the game, Peloquin showed his power yet again with a two run home run over the right field wall this time. UMD took their one run lead into the bottom of the inning and held off the Marauders' efforts, securing the 11-10 victory in the 2025 regular season finale.

Looking Ahead

With today's victory earning Bulldog baseball (25-25, 21-19 NSIC) the sixth seed next week, UMD will look toward a matchup with the Wayne State College Wildcats in the opening round. First pitch against the Wildcats is currently set for Wednesday, May 7, at 6:00 PM.
