The University of Minnesota Duluth baseball team returned to action in their second elimination game of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) tournament today, falling 11-10 to the University of Sioux Falls Cougars to close out their 2025 campaign.
Â
Final Score: UMD (10) - USF (11)
Â
An RBI double out to right field from Joey Flom got the Bulldogs on the board in the top of the third to open the evening matchup, though a sacrifice fly situation for the Cougars would tie things up at 1-1 by the end of the first.
Â
Kade Peloquin and the Bulldogs were quick to respond in the fourth, lining an RBI base hit down the first base line to tally another run on the board.
Â
However, USF was quick to even it out and take the lead as they would tally runs on a pair of RBI base hits and a three run home run over the right field wall.
Â
The Bulldogs showed life in the fifth with an RBI base hit from Troy Lynch driving in two runs to get back within two runs, but a two run home run from Sioux Falls canceled out the effort as UMD headed into the second half of the contest at a 8-4 deficit.
Â
The scoring went cold heading into the top of the eighth, where Michael Gabbard brought some momentum to the UMD offense with an RBI single to the left side of the infield. Henry Bushey and Sam Kliber kept things going with back to back RBI hits to bring it to an 8-8 tie before Flom laced an RBI triple to right center to give the Bulldogs the lead. Another run would get tacked on by an RBI grounder from Lynch before the end, giving UMD a one run lead going into the bottom of the inning.
Â
A trio of RBI base hits for the Cougars shifted the lead back in their favor heading into the ninth. The Bulldogs were unable to rally back ahead, ending their 2025 NSIC tournament run.
