Hanson Named NCHC Defenseman of the Week

For a third time this season, University of Minnesota Duluth sophomore blueliner Ty Hanson has been named the National College Hockey Conference Defenseman of the Week after his four point weekend against Lindenwood University.

The native of Hermantown, Minn. had four assists -- two in each game, and was +3 with six shots on goal and one blocked shot. The defenseman was tied for the second most assists in the NCHC among all skaters on the weekend (trailing only teammate Jayson Shaugabay, who had five and was tied with Aaron Pionk, who also had four helpers). Hanson was critical for UMD's power play that went an impressive 7-of-14 in the series -- three of his four assists came on UMD's power play.

Hanson earns the Bulldogs eighth NCHC Player of the Week honor (and third for himself). UMD jumps back into NCHC action this weekend in St. Cloud, Minn. against St. Cloud State University. The Friday-Saturday series gets underway Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
