Bulldog Soccer Returns Home to Battle the Huskies and No. 7 Mavericks

The University of Minnesota Duluth Women's Soccer team returns home this weekend to take on the St. Cloud State Huskies and No. 7 Minnesota State, Mankato Mavericks. UMD plays St. Cloud State on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Minnesota State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Weekend Preview:

vs. St. Cloud State: UMD and St. Cloud State are even on the all-time record, 17-17-6. However, recent matches have tilted towards the Huskies, as the Bulldogs have not won against them since 2017.

In their last match, both teams played to a 0-0 tie, the first points UMD has gotten against St. Cloud State since that 2017 win.

The Huskies enter the weekend 3-3-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the NSIC. St. Cloud State earned four points last weekend with a 1-0 win against SMSU and 2-2 draw against Sioux Falls.

Lindsey Trapino and Laney Haviland lead the way for SCSU with four goals each. The Huskies have scored 12 goals and conceded 11.

vs. No. 7 Minnesota State: The Mavericks hold a commanding lead on the Bulldogs all-time, with UMD having a 8-25-6 record against them, and the Bulldogs last victory coming in 2011.

In their last match, the Mavericks took a solid 3-0 victory over UMD. Minnesota State had three goal scorers in the contest in their third consecutive shutout against UMD.

Minnesota State enters the weekend 8-0-1 and 5-0-1 in the NSIC, leading the conference. The Mavericks previous weekend saw them outscore their opponents 11-0 in two dominant wins over SMSU and Sioux Falls.

Amara Smith and Maddix Archer lead the way for the Mavericks, having scored five and three goals respectively. The Mavericks have been great on both sides of the ball so far, having scored 21 and conceded just one goal.

Defense Continuing to be Key: The Bulldogs only conceded one goal on the weekend, and continue to look sharp with only five goals conceded for a .56 game average.

BULLDOG NOTES:  The Bulldogs are outscoring their opponents 11 to five so far in the 2026 campaign. Lauren McGough scored two goals over the weekend in the 2-0 win at Minot State. She now has six goals on the year and is third in the NSIC for goals, and third for points. Edy Halverson got her fifth shutout of the season against Minot State, the most shutouts for a UMD goalkeeper since 2014. Julia Skarda and Nora Helvig lead the team in minutes with 774 and 752 minutes respectively. Helvig also leads with the most shots on goal, with 23, with Lauren McGough and Kaitlyn Beavers following with 12 each.
