The No. 5 University of Minnesota Duluth men's hockey team and Augustana University settled for a 1-1 tied Saturday night in nonconference action in MIDCO Arena in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Â
All the scoring in regulation happened in the first seven minutes of the second period, and the Vikings got on the board first with a tip by Leonid Bulgakov at 3:44 for the 1-0 lead.
Â
UMD responded at the 6:38 mark, but it took a challenge from the Bulldog bench to force the goal to be allowed. After a lengthy review, the officials awarded Hunter Anderson the goal, but later replay declared it was junior Ty Hanson who scored off the feed from Zam Plante to equalize at 1-1.

Â
For a second-straight night, the Vikings and Bulldogs needed overtime, but unlike Friday night, the extra time ended the way it started – knotted up at 1-1 and into the books officially as a tie.
Â
Augustana won the meaningless shootout 2-0, while their goaltender Mathis Langevin finished the game with 34 saves after UMD outshot the VIkings 35-22 in the game.
Â
In the Bulldog net, rookie netminder Carl Axelsson had 21 saves and has allowed just one goal in 125:00 minutes so far this season. Neither team cashed in on the power play –AU went 0-of-3 while UMD was 0-of-2.
Â
UMD (2-1-1) returns home to AMSOIL Arena next weekend to host the No. 20 University of Minnesota. The Friday-Saturday series will get underway Friday night at 7:07 p.m.
