The University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey program has a new all-time career shutout lead.
Â
One day after returning home from Team Canada Camp, Eve Gascon put her official stamp on the Bulldog program, helping No. 11/12 UMD shutout Bemidji State University 3-0 inside the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minn. The shutout also makes the second-straight game the Bulldogs have logged a clean sheet – the teams fourth of the season.
Â
Gascon, who is also now the NCAA undisputed shutout leader, has three shutouts in just four games played.
Â
But it was Gascon's Canada travel mate Catilin Kraemer that got the offense going for UMD midway through the first period. It took Kraemer just 11:29 back in a Bulldog uniform to put UMD ahead, burying an extended goal line pass from Kate Kosobud to take the 1-0 lead.
Â
That Bulldogs lead stretched to 2-0 on the first goal of Ava MacLeod's career, lifting the puck over Sophia Villanueva off a Laini Gnetz rebound at 19:13.
Â
UMD iced the game with a goal from Madi Burr at the 17:28 mark of the third period, and Gascon did the rest, holding the Beavers off the board and scoreless in three power play attempts.Â
Â
The Bulldogs outshot BSU 32-24 on the evening and had nine different players log points in the game.
Â
UMD (5-2, 2-1-0) and BSU (1-4-0, 0-3-0) will do it all over again tomorrow afternoon inside Sanford. The puck is set to drop at 3:00 p.m.
