The University of Minnesota Duluth Soccer team faced a setback against St. Cloud State on Friday, losing 2-1. The Bulldogs are now 5-3-2 on the season and 4-2-1 in the NSIC. The Huskies improved their record to 4-3-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the NSIC.

Lindsey Trappino scored St. Cloud State's opening goal in the 22nd minute of the game, helped by an assist from Abby Kavanagh. The first half continued to be scrappy, and the Bulldogs advanced the ball just mere feet from the goal late, but a strong effort from Huskies keeper Jaylee Strickland kept the 1-0 St. Cloud State lead, which is what the Huskies entered halftime with.

The Huskies struck again early in the second half, with a goal from Izzy Halunen and assisted by Lindsey Trappino, increasing the St. Cloud State lead to two. UMD continued to search for a goal until Kaitlyn Beavers found the back of the net in the 76th minute, giving some life to the Bulldogs on her first goal of the season, assisted by Ava Killian. Beavers almost got her second five minutes later, but it missed just a little high. The last barrage from UMD came up short, and the Huskies emerged with a 2-1 victory over the Bulldogs.

UMD outshot St. Cloud State 24-10 in the game, including 14-6 on goal. Kaitlyn Beavers and Nora Helvig led in shots with nine and five respectively.Â

UMD welcomes Minnesota State, Mankato for the last game of the weekend. The game is on Sunday with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m.
