It's Postseason Time! UMD Soccer will Host Augustana Monday Afternoon at Malosky

The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team will host its first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference postseason game Monday afternoon in James S. Malosky Stadium for the first time since 2013 when the Bulldogs welcome Augustana University. The first round playoff game will get underway at 4:00 p.m.

RETURN TO THE POSTSEASON: UMD is back in the post season for the first time since the 2017 season with its highest seed – third – since the Bulldogs finished fifth in 2015. It's also the first home postseason gane for the Bulldogs since 2013 – the longest postseason run in program history that didn't end until the NCAA Elite Eight.

UMD owns five post season conference tournament titles (1997, 1998, 2001, 2003, and 2009).

VS. AUGUSTANA: All-time, UMD owns a 13-11-4 record against the Vikings, with their first meeting going all the way back to Oct. 3, 2004 (a 1-0 Bulldog win). Over the past five meetings, UMD is 1-2-2 against the Augustana, including a 1-1 tie earlier this on Griggs Field back on Sept. 18.

UMD will be looking for its first win over Augustana since Oct. 16, 2022 (1-0 win) and first triumph in Duluth since Oct. 6, 2013. (3-2 overtime win on Griggs). Since that last win in Duluth, the Bulldogs are averaging less than a goal a game against the Vikings (0.57) and have gone 1-3-3 on their home turf.

On Sept. 18, UMD got on the board first with a goal from Nora Helvig, her second in as many games, at the 11th minute mark. Helvig finished off a dropped pass back from Lauren McGough, who had gotten the ball first from Marissa VanDeHei, and just like that, the Bulldogs were up 1-0.

The Vikings equalized in the 26th minute on a corner kick goal from Reese Geiger, the first corner kick goal allowed by UMD this season. That 1-1 scored would hold until halftime -- the Bulldogs had outshot AU 8-6 in the opening 45 minutes.

The Vikings outshot UMD 9-4 in the second half and 10-7 in shots on goal, but neither team would strike again. Sophomore goaltender Edy Halverson had nine saves for UMD, while AU's Linnea Larson had six. The Bulldogs had the slight edge in corner kicks of 6-5. Helvig led all players with a game-high six shots.

CANE GAINS 300 UMD WINS: UMD bench boss Greg Cane secured his 300th win at UMD Thursday with a 2-0 win over Bemidji State University. Last season, Cane picked up his 300th overall coaching career win on Sept. 19th, 2025 against the University of Sioux Falls in a 5-1 rout.

BULLDOG NOTES: UMD owns the third stingiest defense in the NSIC allowing .72 goals against a game … The Bulldogs are averaging 1.66 goals a game … sophomore goaltender Edy Halverson has earned a shutout in half of the games she has played in this season … in 16 games Halverson has recorded eight shutouts, the third most in the NSIC … Halverson also ranks third in goals against (0.63) and save percentage (.851) … Lauren McGough leads UMD with 18 points and owns a team-high eight goals, including four game-winners.
