The University of Minnesota Duluth softball team earned a 10-2 victory over Lewis University on day one of the Lewis Dome Invitational Wednesday.
Freshman pitcher
Emmie Sylvia-Cochran recorded her second victory of the season, allowing no runs on three hits with six strikeouts in three innings pitched.
Morgan McMillan brought in the most RBIs of the team with five off three hits.
The Bulldogs would strand one on the base paths in the first inning with no hits, while Sylvia-Cochran allowed one hit. The UMD bats broke the game open at the top of the second inning, with
Daphne Evans bringing in the first run off a walk.
Morgan McMillan followed up with a single to allow Evans and
Emma Ambroz to get home for a 3-0 lead.
Khendal Johnson was the only one to record a hit in the third inning as the Sylvia-Cochran continued to hold the Flyers to a scoreless inning with no hits. The Bulldogs' bats continued to thrive in the fourth inning as the squad recorded another three hits for two runs as McMillan drove in another two RBIs off a single for a 6-0 lead.
The Bulldogs would score their final runs in the sixth inning with McMillan again singling for two RBIs with Evans and
Paige Johnson getting home. A double from Serena Thomas set her and McMillan to score off a single from Khendal Jenkins to force a dominant 10-0 lead.
Maddy Walsh would allow four hits and two runs before
Ashley Mandell came in to force two groundouts to seal a 10-2 six-inning win.
UMD is now 5-3 in non-conference competition and now turn its attention to the next set of games in the Lewis Dome Invitational. Tomorrow, they face Roosevelt University first at 9 a.m., then Ferris State University at 11 a.m.
