UMD Bulldogs "ALLETE" Moments: Competition
Throughout this year, UMD Athletics is partnering with Minnesota Power, ALLETE to highlight the Bulldogs accomplishments in the 3 C's: Classroom, Competition, Community.
Kole Hanson and
Mattie Thompson of the University of Minnesota Duluth men's basketball team earned selections to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team for their achievements on and off the court during the 2025-26 season.
Sophomore guard from Prior Lake, Minn., Hanson earns his first selection to the CSC All-District Team and advances to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. In a career season, he has averaged 14.9 points, 1.2 steals, 1.4 assists, and 2.2 rebounds per game. At the end of the season, he holds or is tied for multiple of the team's season single-game highs, including field goals (12 of 22 vs. St. Cloud), three-pointers (5 of 9 vs. CSP), free throws (12 of 15 vs. Minnesota Crookston), and steals (4 vs. CSP). He was also selected to the NSIC All-Conference First-Team and was an NSIC and NCAA Central Region All-Tournament honoree.
Duluth native and redshirt senior, Thompson, has earned his second selection to the CSC All-District Team. In a career season, he averaged 8.6 points, 1.0 steals, 1.5 assists, and 4.8 rebounds. He completed the 2025-26 season with 301 points, 54 assists, 20 blocks, 34 steals, and 167 rebounds.
The pair helped UMD conclude the 2025-26 season with a 23-12 record, an NSIC North Division title, an NSIC Tournament Champion title, and two upset wins in the NCAA Tournament Central Region.
