Tennis Falls on the Road to Jamestown, UMary

The University of Minnesota Duluth Tennis Team dropped a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) matches to the University of Jamestown and the University of Mary over the weekend at the Mandan Tennis Center in Mandan, N.D. The Bulldogs (2-10, 1-9 NSIC) fell to the Jimmies, 2-5, Saturday night, before being tripped up by the Marauders Sunday morning, 1-6.

Senior Carly Chaney and freshman Paige Heideman continued their winning ways at No. 2 doubles during the road trip, securing a 6-2 win Saturday over Jamestown's Anna Sharandachenko and Sydney Friesen and a 6-2 win over UMary's Anna Sueflohn and Josie Sueflohn on Sunday. Since pairing up at No. 2 doubles on March 21, Chaney and Heideman have won five of their six matches, all in NSIC action.

Heideman also picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles Saturday against the Jimmies, with redshirt freshman Danica Silcox tallying the second point for the Bulldogs with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles.

Freshman Mia Miller earned the lone point for UMD Sunday against UMary with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Maja Panganiban at No. 5 singles. Heideman and Josie Sueflohn battled hard at No. 3 singles, with Heideman winning the first set 6-2. Sueflohn came back to win the second 6-4 to force a tiebreaker, where she outlasted Heideman, 10-6. Sophomore Olivia Gorton also battled a Marauder to a tiebreaker set at No. 6 singles, but eventually fell 6-3, 2-6, 5-10.

The Bulldogs will close out their season against UW-Stout and UW-River Falls in a non-conference doubleheader at the Falcon Center in River Falls, Wis., on Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
