AS A BULLDOG: Was chosen UMD’s Most Improved Player (Mike Sertich Award) for 2011-12 in a vote by his teammates, proving that a player’s progression cannot be measured by statistics alone ... secured a winger spot on the Bulldogs’ fourth line from Jan. 7 on, and finished with 28 games tucked under his rookie year belt ... went without a goal last winter, but did have three assists (all of which were registered in opposition buildings) ... notched the first of those helpers in a 5-3 win at Michigan Tech on Dec. 3.

BEFORE UMD: Is among a handful of recent Hermantown High School products who have opted to stay close to home for their post-secondary puck education ... split time with a pair of United States Hockey League clubs -- the Chicago Steel and the Sioux City Musketeers -- during his lone year of play (2010-11) in that circuit … collected 23 points (12 goals and 11 assists) in 60 overall outings with 12 of those points coming in 24 games following a trade to Sioux City … was a Musketeer teammate of fellow 2012-13 Bulldog sophomore Caleb Herbert ... put an exclamation point on a rewarding senior season at Hermantown High School in 2009-10 with a selection to the Associated Press All-State second team, the St. Paul Pioneer Press All-State first team and the All-Lake Superior Conference first team ... topped the Hawk scoring charts that winter with 37 goals and 29 assists for 66 points for the second straight time ... captained Hermantown to a runner-up finish at the 2010 Minnesota Class A State Tournament en route to being the 2009-10 Duluth News-Tribune’s Player of the Year (succeeding current UMD junior forward Max Tardy) ... also lettered in baseball (first base) and football (wide receiver) as a prep.
