BEFORE UMD: His pre-Division I preparation included serving a two-year United States Hockey League stint in Des Moines, Iowa … popped in 11 goals and 21 assists for 32 points for the 2011-12 Des Moines Buccaneers -- a seven-point increase from his rookie year total  … appeared in all 60 regular season games last winter -- one of only two Des Moines skaters to do so ... was part of the Western Conference roster (along with current UMD sophomore Caleb Herbert) for the 2011 USHL All-Stars ... his 10 power play assists as a rookie were the second most of any Buccaneer … is a 2010 graduate of Andover High School … amassed a team-leading 79 points (25 goals and 54 assists) in 27 games while being named a 2009-10 Mr. Hockey finalist … handled a team captaincy role as a senior and secured a spot on both the Associated Press All-State (honorable mention) and Minneapolis Star Tribune All-Metro (second team) groups that year   … also was a two-time All-Northwest Suburban Conference pick.
