BEFORE UMD: A 2014 graduate of Roseville Area High School • played three years for coach Ted Critchly and the Raiders • earned All-North Suburban Conference honors as a senior captain • part of 2011-12 and 2012-13 conference championship teams and finished runner-up in the section as a sophomore • earned coach's award as a senior • also played football as a two-way player on the line for Roseville.
PERSONAL: Born Derek Joseph Magnuson on Feb. 27, 1996 in Maplewood, Minnesota • son of Mary Beth and Don Magnuson • has two sisters, Charlotte and Grace • off the court, was selected to All-Conference choir • plans to major in exercise science at UMD.
