BEFORE UMD: Four-year starter (offensive and defensive line) at Sheboygan North High School ... played under head coach Joseph O'Brien ... was a two-time All-Fox River Classic Conference honoree ... captained the Golden Raiders as a senior and was voted their Most Vauable Player in both 2018 and 2019 ... also has lettered four times  in wrestling (heavyweight) and three times in  track and field, placing eight in the shot put at the state meet his junior year.
PERSONAL: ... Son of Anthony and Rebecca Welsch ... has four siblings (Justin, LaFasha, Caleb, and Caden) ... plans on majoring in integrated elementary special education at UMD.
