Parker Starr returns to the Bulldog bench for the 2018 season after starting joining in 2017. Starr helped lead the UMD to a 26-28 record (18-19 NSIC) and was a part of producing 10 players to the NSIC All-Academic team.
Prior to joining the UMD coaching staff, Starr spent two years at shortstop with Brigham Young University, where he batted .277 and racked up 30 RBI's while providing consistent defense up the middle. BYU compiled a 50-56 record over these two seasons including a 28-26 mark in West Coast Conference play. Prior to his career at BYU, Starr competed at Cypress Junior College, leading the Chargers to a California State Championship. Starr added coaching experience in 2015 as an assistant coach in the California Collegiate League, a league which has produced numerous Major League players including current White Sox pitcher James Shields.
"We are excited to have Coach Starr join our Bulldog Baseball family. His playing experience at highly successful programs will serve him well as he mentors our players in their development on and off the field," said UMD head coach Bob Rients.
Starr graduated in 2016 from BYU with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and will be furthering his education at UMD in addition to joining the coaching staff.
