Biography
BULLDOG CAREER:
2017-18 (Junior) Provided the Bulldogs with a solid bench option, taking the court in all 30 games but also started a pair of contests • highly effective shooter when given open looks • connected on 30 of his 55 attempts, good for 54.5 percent from the field • also hit on half of his shots from behind the arc • scored 12 points on two occasions, setting a new collegiate best • secured a spot on the 2017-18 National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court • selected to the NSIC All-Academic Team.
2016-17 (Sophomore) Took the court in 25 games while picking up four starts • notched a career-high 11 points and five assists against Upper Iowa • posted a 2.1 assist-to-turnover ratio while averaging 14.9 minutes per game • scored points in nine games over a ten game stretch from 12/10/16-1/14/17.
2015-16 (Freshman) Appeared in 10 games in a reserve role during his first collegiate go-around, averaging 3.1 minutes • made his collegiate debut at Central Missouri on Nov. 13 • scored a season-high three points against Wisconsin-Superior on Jan. 6 • scored at least two points in three straight games Jan. 6-16 • grabbed three rebounds at No. 4 MSU Moorhead on Dec. 12.
BEFORE UMD: A 2015 graduate of Mounds View High School • started three seasons for the Mustangs • received All-Suburban East Conference honors each of the past three seasons and All-Metro selections the past two seasons • led the Mustangs in scoring as a junior and led the conference in scoring as a senior • a 1,000 point career scorer, he is second all-time in points at Mounds View • also participated in football as a tight end/wide receiver and track & field as a jumper/sprinter.
PERSONAL: Born Ryan Daniel Kaczynski in Milwaukee, Wis. • son of Jeanne and Dan Kaczynski • one of three siblings (Stephanie and Jenny) • mother, Jeanne, ran track at Marquette University and his grandfather, Bob Kaczynski, was a 1999 inductee into the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, as the former coach of the West Allis Hale Girls High School team • participated in National Honor Society and the student newspaper while at Mounds View • is majoring in marketing at UMD.
