BEFORE UMD: Made Sioux Falls, S.D., his hockey home during the past two winters ... delivered a 27-point 2011-12 season for the United States Hockey League’s Stampede, complementing 12 goals with 15 assists ... also assisted on a team-leading eight power-play goals one year ago … concluded his rookie year with 11 goals (four of which came with the man advantage) and 21 assists for 32 points … bypassed his final two seasons of eligibility at South St. Paul High School to sign on with the USHL ranks ...  reigned as the Packers’ leading point producer in 2009-10 with  24 goals and 19 assists in just 25 outings ... was aptly bestowed with All-Classic Suburban Conference honors for his spirited play that winter  … generated 32 points (11 goals and 21 assists)  during his 31-game freshman year ... is a 2012 graduate of O’Gorman Catholic High School in Sioux Falls.

PERSONAL: Born Austyn John Authur Young on Oct. 16, 1993 in Greensboro, N.C. ... is the son of John and Shannon Young ... his father starred for four years at Michigan Tech University (he currently ranks fourth on the team’s career scoring charts), was a two-time All-Western Collegiate Hockey Association second team forward (1991-93), and later went on to play professionally with, among other clubs,  the now-defunct Minnesota Moose of the International Hockey League  ... has one older sister -- Ashley, a four-year letterwinner with the Minnesota State University-Mankato puck program (2006-10) ... is an undeclared major at UMD.
