BEFORE UMD: Matriculated to UMD directly from the high school ranks -- a path which has become more and more of a rarity in Division I hockey  … skated three seasons with the Hill-Murray High School varsity and saved his best hockey for last  ...  was a finalist for the Mr. Hockey Award as a senior and landed All-Classic Suburban Conference recognition after amassing 30 goals and 21 assists for 51 points in 31 games .... captained the Pioneers to a runner-up finish at the 2012 Minnesota Class AA Tournament and left that event with All-Tournament Team honors in tow ... also made the St. Paul Pioneer Press All-State team (honorable mention) in 2011-12.

PERSONAL: Born Charles Anthony Sampair on Oct. 31, 1993 in St. Paul, Minn. ... is the son of Tony (a St. John’s University hockey and football alumnus) and Laurie Sampair ... has two older siblings (Beau and Nicolette) ... one of his cousins, Brandon Sampair, played four years of hockey at St. Cloud State University and was an All-WCHA third team forward as senior in 2000-01, while another, Jesse Sampair, was a hockey letterman at both Cornell University (1995-96) and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls (1996-99) ... is majoring in accounting at UMD.
