Biography

AS A BULLDOG: 
2020-21:
Despite playing in six less games than last season, Roth scored a career high 23 points on the year.. scored 13 goals again this year and dished out 10 assists... took just the fourth penalty of his career... netted a career best four game winners on the season... posted a  +10 rating, also a career best... had four goals coming on the man advantage... took 82 shots for a .159 shooting percentage on the season... finished with 19 blocks... was named to the NCHC All-Conference Academic team for the first year.
2019-20:
Improved upon his solid sophomore season by besting his 15 points to 21, scoring five more times for 13 on the year and one more assist for eight and a total of 21 points on the season despite playing in eight less games (34)... scored three game winners on the year and five power play goals... took 79 shots and improved on his shooting percentage by 74 points (.165)... stayed out of the sin bin, not committing one penalty on the season... finished the season with a +6 rating... won the NCHC Sportsmanship award.
2018-19: Bounced back from a somewhat injury-riddled freshman season to take shifts in all 42 Bulldog games ... established career bests for goals (eight), assists (seven) and points (15) as well as game-winners (a team-leading four) and power play tallies (5 -- the second most among Bulldogs) ...  struck twice for the second multi-goal night of his career in a 5-0 takedown of North Dakota on Nov. 30 at AMSOIL Arena ... was deployed primarily as team's fourth line left winger ... the Bulldogs were 10-1-1 when he marked in the points column and a perfect 7-0-0 when he scored a goal.
2017-18: Was one of four Bulldog freshmen forwards who broke into the NCAA ranks  ... had nine points (four goals and five assists) in 30 appearances as a rookie ... was a +5 as well ... registered his first collegiate goal while UMD had the man advantage at Colorado College (a 6-5 triumph on Jan. 12) and followed that up with his first game-winning score the next night in Colorado Springs, Colo. ... skated at left wing on the fourth line during UMD’s entire four-game NCAA postseason run but exited the Frozen Four championship bout in the first period with a lower body injury ... was not available for five games other games while nursing an upper body injury.
BEFORE UMD: Arrived at UMD in 2017 fresh off a full, one-season stay in Des Moines, Iowa, strutting his stuff with the United States Hockey League’s Buccaneers ... put the wraps on the 2016-17 regular season ranking fourth on the Des Moines scoring charts with 31 points on 12 goals (including four power play tallies) and 19 assists ... split time the previous winter between the North American Hockey League’s Minnesota Wilderness (seven goals and 20 points in 35 outings) and Des Moines (three points -- all goals -- in 17 outings) ... was a three-year hockey standout at Warroad High School ... sat out a good chuck of his senior season in 2014-15 with ankle and hip injuries after pacing all Minnesota high schoolers both in goals (40) and points (85) one year earlier ... captained the 2014-15 Warriors while playing under head coach Jay Hardwick, a former UMD defenseman.
