Biography

AS A BULLDOG: 
2018-19: Accomplished something only one other Bulldog had done previously -- attain All-American status in each of his first two years at UMD (goaltender Rick Kosti was the other, doing so in 1983-84 and 1984-85) ... was a All-American second team honoree and a repeat first team All-NCHC selection ... also collared the NCHC Offensive Defenseman of the Year award for the second straight time ... tied for eighth nationally in assists by a defenseman with a career-best 28 to go with three goals ... those 29 points put him third on the UMD scoring charts (behind only forward Parker Mackay and Justin Richards) ... joined three other Bulldogs on the NCAA Midwest Regional All-Tournament Team ... got his sophomore year off to a blistering start, racking up 10 points (one goal and nine assists) in the opening eight outings of the year ... was cited as the NCHC Offensive Player of the Week for his six-point weekend at the expense of visiting Maine on Oct. 19-20 ... spent three games in March on the sidelines nursing a combination of lower and upper body injuries.
2017-18:  Delivered one of the most prolific seasons by a Bulldog freshmen ever  ... was the recipient of the Tim Taylor Award (Hockey Commissioner’s Association National Rookie of the Year) in addition to being named a first team All-American -- just the second UMD newcomer to be so honored (joining center Murray Keogan, 1969-70) ... his other post-season citations included USCHO.com National Rookie of the Year and College Hockey News National Rookie of the Year, All-USCHO (first team) and College Hockey News All-Rookie Team ... was chosen the  NCHC Rookie of the Year and NCHC Offensive Defenseman of the Year (both UMD program firsts) ... became just the second first-year Bulldog to attain All-NCHC/WCHA first team acclaim (Keogan was the other -- with the WCHA in 1969-70) ... also became the second defenseman to ever lead UMD in scoring and the first rookie to accomplish that feat in 15 years ... racked up 36 points (a record for a first-year UMD blueliner and the most of any freshman defenseman in the country) on 11 goals and a team-leading 25 assists in 42 games ... also paced the 2017-18 Bulldogs in plus-minus rating (+22) and was second in power play goals (4) ... that +22 topped all 2017-18 NCAA rookies while his 36 points and 25 assists both ranked third... made the All-Tournament Team at both the NCAA Frozen Four and the Ice Breaker tourney ... was twice chosen the NCHC Rookie of the Month (November and March-April) and the NCHC Defenseman or Rookie of the Week five times ... patrolled the blue line for bronze-medal winning Team USA at the 2018 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship over the Christmas/New Year’s holidays ... was taken in the second round (45th pick overall) by the St. Louis Blues in the 2018 National Hockey League Draft.
BEFORE UMDGenerated more points (six goals and 15 assists) than all but two Cedar Rapids RoughRiders during his solo United State Hockey League go-around in 2016-17 ... 10 of his 21 points came on the power play ... took shift in 56 regular games ... starred for four seasons at Hibbing High School (the alma mater of UMD head coach Scott Sandelin) ... rolled up a Minnesota high school-leading 62 assists to go with 15 goals as a junior, his final year with the Bluejackets ... was selected the 2016-17 All-Iron Range Player of the Year by the Mesabi Daily News, Hibbing Daily Tribune and the Grand Rapids Herald-Review ... nailed down All-Iron Range Conference and Duluth News-Tribune All-Area status for the second year in a row in 2015-16 ...  competed for the U.S. Under-18 Select Team at the 2015 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup in the Czech Republic and Slovakia ... filled in with the U.S. National Under-18 Team for two games in January 2016 which included a 4-3 overtime loss to UMD at AMSOIL Arena ... is a 2017 graduate of Hibbing High School.

PERSONAL: Born Scott Douglas Perunovich in Hibbing, Minn. ... is the son of Jim and Susan Perunovich ... has two older siblings (Jeff and Lisa) ... his uncle, Doug Torrel, was a four-year UMD hockey letterman (right winger) who captained the Bulldogs as a senior in 1991-92 ... is majoring in communication at UMD.
