Biography

BULLDOG CAREER
2021: King started 12 of the 14 games she saw action in...She combined for a total of 926 minutes and had a season high 110 minutes in the double-overtime tie against Sioux Falls... Was named to the NSIC All-Academic Team.
2020: Season canceled due to COVID-19 pandemic.
2019: Made a massive jump in terms of playing time, making appearances in 16 games and started in 11 on the year...King had a total of 1049 minutes on the year, which was a large leap from the 116 minutes from her freshman year...she scored her first career goal and had her first career game winner in a 1-0 win over Northern Michigan University...finished the year with three points (one goal, one assist) on the season...she took a total of three shots on the year with one hitting the year and a .333 shots on goal percentage...was named to the NSIC All-Academic team.
2018: Spent time as a reserve in a loaded backline...made five appearances in her first season scooping up minutes late on three occasions while playing larger roles in two others...stepped on the pitch for the first time collegiately in the season opener at Michigan Tech on Aug. 30...received her most playing time against Division I North Dakota going head-to-head with the Fighting Hawks for 46 minutes...helped secure three shutouts in her five appearances including 45 minutes at Minnesota Crookston allowing only two shots the entire game.

King trained with the Bulldogs but did not see game action, receiving a redshirt during her first season in 2017.

BEFORE UMD: A 2017 graduate of Batavia Senior High School...played under the direction of head coach Mark Gianfrancesco and lettered twice...received Academic All-Upstate Eight-River Division honors in 2016...was named team captain in 2014, before being the recipient of the Bulldogs’ Most Valuable Defender award...starter for two years for the Bulldogs’ basketball team as a forward and earned Academic All-Conference honors...was a two-year starter and a captain of the Synergy Soccer Club.

PERSONAL: Born Shannon Marie King in Batavia, Ill....daughter of Joe and Laura...has two younger siblings, Brady and Carlin...mother played volleyball collegiately at the University of Nebraska Omaha...was very involved outside of athletics at school, taking part in Key Club, the treasurer for the student council, NHS (National Honors Society), National Spanish, English and Science Honor Societies...a “Top Dog” award recipient and an Illinois State scholar...majored in biochemistry and cognitive science at UMD...currently pursuing a master's degree in chemistry.
