AS A BULLDOG:
2020-21: Saw action in 11 games in a shortened season... scored his the first goal of his collegiate career (as a game winner) in a 4-1 win against Western Michigan University (Jan. 24, 2021)... finished the year at a +1... took a total of 10 shots on the year for a .100 shooting percentage... named to the NCHC All-Academic team.
2019-20: Appeared in 14 for the Bulldogs after joining in late December of 2019... was able to produce one assist with two penalties (for four minutes) and had a plus one rating in his first year... generated eight shots.
BEFORE UMD: Joined the Bulldog program in late December 2019 following a prosperous half-season with the Austin Bruins ... ranked first on that North American Hockey League franchise's scoring charts before departing for UMD ...  generated  17 goals and 13 assists in 28 games for the 2019-20 Bruins and was a +9 to boot ... collared the NAHL Player of the Month honor for November 2019 ... commenced the 2018-19 season as member of the United States Hockey League’s Cedar Rapids Roughriders, scoring five points (four goals and one assist) in 26 outings before relocating to Austin in a trade on Feb. 6 ... finished with nine goals and nine assists in 26 outings as a Bruin rookie ... played five years of varsity hockey at Holy Family Catholic High School (2013-18), where he was a teammate of current Bulldog junior defenseman Matt Anderson ... was a Top 10 finalist for the Mr. Hockey Minnesota Award as a senior in 2017-18 ... concluded his farewell prep season with 22 goals and 57 points in 28 games while captaining the Fire ... was a two-time All- Wright County Conference honoree (2016-17 and 2017-18).
PERSONAL: Born Benjamin Thomas Almquist in Victoria, Minn. ... is the son of Thomas (who, from 1983-87, played with the now-defunct with the now-defunct University of Illinois-Chicago hockey program) and Candace Almquist ... has one older sister (Sarah) ... his great grandfather, legendary Roseau High School head coach Oscar Almquist, is a member of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame (Class of 1983) ... is majoring in business at UMD.
