Biography

AS A BULLDOG:
2019 (Senior): Will captain the 2019 Bulldogs • ranks first among all active NCAA II setters in career assists (4,181) and assists per set (12.23).
2018 (Junior): Racked up 1,472 assists and a 12.69 assists per set her junior year and route to becoming UMD's 26th AVCA All-American second team • took care of business in the classroom as well -- was a member of the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-America second team and All-District first team • awarded first team all-region honors by the AVCA and second team by the D2CCA • named a first team All-NSIC performer as well • tallied a believed-league first four straight NSIC Setter of the Week honors (9-24-10/15) • first player to three-peat conference Setter of the Week award since Bulldog Ashley Hinsch (2014) • commanded the Bulldog offense to a .268 hitting percentage, seventh in Division II • was third in the nation in assists per set and fourth in the nation in total assists • produced a season-high 64 assists against Northern State on Sept. 22 (one shy of her career total) • also had a season high with 15 digs against the Wolves • slammed home a collegiate high six kills against Upper Iowa on Oct. 13 • had nine games with at least 50 assists and two over 60 • compiled five double-doubles, tied for second among Bulldogs • tied her single-game career highs in aces (Erskine- Aug. 25) and blocks (Twice, St. Cloud State- Oct. 9 and Washburn- Nov. 16) • outside of setting, finished with 1.83 digs per set, .48 blocks per set and .22 aces per set • one of two Bulldogs to play in all 116 sets • selected to the NSIC All-Academic Team.
2017 (Sophomore): Backed up her freshman campaign with another spectacular season dictating the offense • was named to the All-NSIC second team for a second straight season • was awarded NSIC Setter of the Week honors (Oct. 9) • registered 1,423 assists and moved into ninth all-time in set assists • averaged the fifth most assists per set (12.06) in the nation and boosted UMD to the second best mark in the country (14.18) • directed the Bulldogs to a .287 hitting percentage, good for fourth in Division II • recorded a career high 65 assists in the five-set win over Wayne State on Nov. 11 • compiled a personal best 17 digs in the NCAA Quarterfinal matchup against Northern State • racked up double-doubles on seven occasions • selected to the NSIC All-Academic Team.
2016 (Freshman): Assumed the primary setter's role, starting all 30 matches for the Bulldogs • earned NSIC Freshman of the Year honors • was named to the All-NSIC second team • was awarded NSIC Setter of the Week honors on two occasions • averaged the most assists per set (11.91) by a UMD freshman since 2005 • ranked third in the NSIC and 16th in Division II in assists per set • guided an efficient Bulldog offense to a .281 hitting percentage, good for fifth in Division II and third in the NSIC • ranked second in blocks per set by an NSIC setter at 0.50 • notched a career-high 58 assists in three matches • recorded double-doubles (assists and digs) against Wayne State (Neb.) on two occasions.

Torve trained with the Bulldogs but did not see game action, receiving a redshirt during her first season in 2015.

BEFORE UMD: A 2015 graduate of Heritage Christian Academy • played six season of volleyball, starting four of those for the Eagles • earned Minnesota Christian Academic Association All-Conference honors in each of her four seasons at HCA, including first team selections the past three years • named Academic All-Minnesota in her senior season • played two years of softball in the outfield for Heritage Christian.

PERSONAL: Born Emily Rose Torve on March 1, 1997 in Minneapolis, Minnesota • daughter of Lisette and Kent Torve • served as co-president of Eagle Honor Society in high school • father played baseball professionally in the minor league system of the Chicago White Sox and collegiately at San Diego State University • is majoring in chemical engineering at UMD • married former UMD football standout Jason Balts this past June.
