Junior defensive end Russ Rabe has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for his exemplary efforts in the University of Minnesota-Duluth's 28-0 win at the University of Minnesota-Crookston Saturday afternoon.
Rabe, a 6-3, 235-pound native of Lake Holcombe, WI, had a hand in eight total tackles (six solos and two assists), including four for a loss and two quarterback sacks. Rabe, who is in his first full season of starting duty, tops the 2003 Bulldogs in solo tackles with 25 and quarterback sacks with 9.5, which currently ranks third among all NCAA Division II players and is 2.5 shy of the UMD's single-season record.
Rabe and the defending NSIC champion Bulldogs will put their school-record 16-game home winning streak on the line Saturday (Oct. 25) when they host league-leading Concordia University-St. Paul in UMD's 2003 home finale.
