The No. 8 University of Minnesota-Duluth volleyball team went 2-0 in its first day of competition at the Burger King Classic in Brookings, S.D. today. The team began its pair of wins versus the Dakotas with a 3-0 (30-25, 30-23, 30-18) win over the University of North Dakota. The Bulldogs then moved on to notch its fifth victory of the season over No. 20 South Dakota State University, 3-2 (30-16, 30-27, 29-31, 28-30, 15-11).
Sophomore Alicia Meger and senior Crystal Nucech each collected 11 kills in the game while Nucech racked up a .526 (11k, 1e, 19att) hitting percentage, had a service ace, and made a game high 15 digs.
Versus SDSU, the Bulldogs had four players with at least 10 blocks. Junior outside hitter Callie Zwettler led the barrage with 23 kills. Sophomore setter Greta Iisakka made 50 assists in the game.
The Bulldogs are 5-1 on the season and will compete in two games tomorrow ro wrap up the Burger King Classic. They hit the courts first to face Dakota Weslyan at 9:00 a.m. and will be back in action at 1:00 p.m. to take on National American University.
