Tim Hambly , who played an instrumental role in the University of Minnesota-Duluth's weekend sweep of defending Western Collegiate Hockey Association champion Colorado College, has been selected the league's Defensive Player of the Week.
Hambly, a 6-0, 180-pound defensman from White Bear Lake, MN, was credited with five assists and was a +3 over the two games in Colorado Springs, CO. He picked up one assist in a 5-2 UMD win Friday and then commemorated his 100th collegiate game thhe following evening by assisting on four of the Bulldogs' five goals in their 5-3 victory.
In 32 outings this season, Hambly has amassed a career-high 22 points (14 of which of come in the last 14 games) and tops the 2003-04 Bulldogs with a +31 plus rating. He currently is tied for fourth in scoring among all WCHA defensemen with 15 points in league play.
Hambly and the Bulldogs will put their school-record 14-game unbeaten streak on the line this Friday and Saturday (Feb. 27-28) when they host the University of North Dakota in a crucial two-game WCHA series. If the Bulldogs can come out victorious in both of those showdowns they will captured their first regular season league championship in 11 years.
