USA HANDS CANADA FIRST LOSS IN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

The University of Minnesota Duluth Women's Hockey Team is well represented in the 2004 Women's World Championship tournament in Nova Scotia. This weekend teammates Jenny Potter, Julianne Vasichek, and Caroline Ouellette battled it out on the ice as Team USA handed Team Canada their first loss, 3-1, World Championship Tournament so far in the history of the women's event on April 3.

None of the Bulldog representatives garnered a point in this contest, but Ouellette had tallied five points, while Potter has netted four.

Canada and Ouellette then came back the next day to defeat Sweden 7-1 to advance to the Gold Medal Game on April 6. In the victory over Sweden Ouellette also added to her point total with a goal and two assists to give her eight points in the tournament.

Team Finland knocked Germany out of the tournament with a 4-0 victory. Junior Nora Tallus has been participating for Finland and has garnered a single assist so far.

In play on Monday, Finland will face Russia, the USA will battle Sweden, and Switzerland will play Japan.

The Gold Medal and Bronze Medal games are set for April 6.
