The No. 17 University of Minnesota Duluth Volleyball team went 2-0 in its first two games of the Denver Premier Tournament on Friday, Sept 3. The Bulldogs defeated No. 21 St. Edward's University (Texas) in their first outing of the day, 3-0 (30-24, 30-19, 34-32). UMD then defeated No. 13 Central Missouri State University, 3-1 (26-30, 30-24, 30-23, 30-25) to move on to the Gold Medal bracket for Saturday, Sept. 4th action.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs was senior captain Callie Zwettler. The All-American set down 32 kills in the two matches and added two service aces. A total of four members of the UMD squad added double digits in kills, including Alicia Meger (17), Rachel Langseth (21), and Julie Lenci (19).
Fellow senior Greta Iisakka set up at total of 102 kills in the two matches, including 57 against Central Missouri. Allison Boddy recorded 50 digs for the Bulldogs.
UMD, now 3-1, 0-0 NCC, is set to play in the Gold Medal Bracket of the tournament. Up next for the Bulldogs is No. 4 North Alabama at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4. UMD will then play either No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul or No. 2 UC San Diego in the third place or championship match at 6 p.m.
