In the last regular season game of the 2004-2005 campaign the University of Minnesota Duluth women’s hockey team fell 0-1 to the No. 1 ranked University of Minnesota at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center.
The first period was scoreless just like the night before Krissy Wendell garnered the lone goal of the evening, unassisted at 2:25 in the second period. The Gophers were on the advantage for most of the first and second periods as they received to 5x3 power-play opportunities that they were unable to convert on.
The Bulldogs were the first team all season to keep the Gophers scoreless on the man advantage in a series this year. UMD’s Patricia Sautter-Elsmore was in net for the Bulldogs and the lone mark against her was only the second goal that she has let in during her 199:07 of playing time.
UMD finishes the year with a 24-4-2 overall and 22-4-2 Western Collegiate Hockey Association record. The Bulldogs will be heading down to the WCHA Tournament next week (March 3-6) and will face the University of North Dakota in the opening game of the tournament on Thursday, March 3 at 4 p.m. The tournament will be held in St. Paul, Minn at Ridder Arena.
