Even with his breakout season,
Josh Meyers still may have been one of the best-kept blueline secrets in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association last winter. After all, the Alexandria, Minn. product, then a sophomore, did rack up more goals (11) than any other league defenseman, scoring nine of those on the power play which topped all NCAA blueliners. Yet, when the WCHA handed out its all-league honors last March, Meyers' name was no where to be found. Perhaps if there was a Most Unheralded Player Award, that wouldn't have been the case.
So far in 2007-08, Meyers hasn't missed a beat in terms of his offensive production. Heading into this weekend's series at Minnesota State University-Mankato, the Los Angeles Kings' draftee is stationed in the No. 1 spot on UMD's scoring charts, racking up four goals (a figure currently unsurpassed by any WCHA defenseman) and five assists and is a team-leading plus-11 to boot.
