Men's Cross Country

BULLDOG MEN AND WOMEN CAPTURE TEAM TITLES AT PINE HILL INVITE SATURDAY

The No. 15 Minnesota-Duluth women's cross country team dominated the field on Saturday in Carlton, Minn.,  compiling 34 points to capture the team title at the Pine Hill Invitational. The Bulldogs were once again paced by freshman sensation Morgan Place, who won her fifth individual championship in as many tries, completing the 6K course in a time of 21:20 defeating a field of 95 competitors from 10 teams while breaking the Pine Hill Invite course record by 20 seconds with her own personal record which was set by Rachel Stangler an All American from Augustana. The Bulldogs ran in a tight pack with the top three finishers being Place, senior Liz Palkie (2nd place; 21:53), and sophomore Bridget Hines (3rd place; 22:37). Other top finishers for the Bulldogs were sophomores Whitney Hines (11th place; 23:38),Rachael Stack (17th place; 23:58), and Carrie Wardell (20th place; 24:07).

On the men's side, UMD had a strong performance from senior Mike Kramer, helping to lead the Bulldogs to a first place in the seven-team competition with 29 points. Kramer placed second with a time of 26:18 in the men's 8K. Also scoring for the Bulldogs were senior Zach Varty (4th place; 26:33), sophomore Erik Escher (6th place 26:51), and senior Jordan Bjorhus (11th place; 27:23).

The Bulldogs will continue their 2008 season next Saturday (Oct. 18) at the UW-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational in Oshkosh Wis.
