NUNESS AND SYKORA NAMED TO THE 2007-08 ALL-NCC MEN\'S BASKETBALL TEAM

Senior guard Jordan Nuness not only etched his name into the UMD records books during his final season but he also earned himself a spot on the 2007-08 All-North Central Conference Men’s Basketball Team along with fellow Bulldog, junior forward Brian Sykora, the league office announced on Tuesday (March 11).

Nuness and Sykora are two of 11 standout basketball players that were selected to this season’s All-NCC team. It was the first time that Nuness earned a spot on the team, as he was named honorable mention last season. It was also the first selection for Sykora who transferred to UMD this season from Scottsdale Community College.

A native of Eden Prairie, Minn., Nuness wrapped up the 2007-08 season as the NCC’s 3-point field goals made leader with 43 in 12 league games for a 3.6 average. He was fifth in NCC play in scoring with 16.4 points per game and also led the Bulldogs in scoring with 17.8 ppg.

Nuness ended his three-year Bulldog career (transferred from the University of Minnesota) on a high note by setting two UMD 3-point field goals made records. He set the Bulldog career (241) and single season (100) 3-point records. He bested Chris Stanley's career 3-point field goals made record of 239 set from 1998-2002 and surpassed Jerry Meyer's single season 3-point field goals made record of 98 set during the 1993-94 season.

Nuness is No. 22 on UMD's career points list with 1,231 points in just three seasons in a Bulldog uniform. He is one of only 32 players in the 77-season history of the Bulldog program to surpass 1,000 points.

Sykora, a Bloomington, Minn., native, proved to be a tremendous asset in just his first season in a Bulldog uniform as he finished third in conference play in rebounds (8.7 rpg) and seventh in scoring (17.2 ppg). Sykora recorded nine double-doubles this season and had had eight games where he finished with 20 or more points. He was also UMD’s top rebounder this season with 8.4 rpg and second on the team in scoring with 16.5 ppg.

The Bulldogs finished the season 9-19 overall and 2-10 in the NCC.
