Every team, no matter what the sport, needs a leader. For the No. 13-ranked University of Minnesota Duluth volleyball team, that leader is senior setter Katie Gangelhoff. Though the South St. Paul native doesn't lead the maroon and white in kills or blocks, she has her own duty on team, in setting up the Bulldogs' big hitters. Without the UMD captain quarterbacking the squad in the middle of the court, the Bulldogs would find it hard to be in the national spotlight, like they are today. Gangelhoff is a two-time American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II All-American Second Team member, and is just 338 set assists away from breaking the 15-year-old Bulldog all-time assists record of 5,595, held by former UMD great, Julie Bubar (1990-93).
