Proctor's own Katie Gilderman has earned a spot for the rest of the 2009-10 season with the University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team, Shannon Miller announced on Friday. Gilderman, a freshman at UMD, was invited to join the No. 6 Bulldogs for a three-week period after sophomore netminder Lana Steck was injured prior to UMD's game against St. Cloud State on Oct. 10. The former goaltender of the Mirage was the perfect fit to help out the Bulldogs in pinch.
“After having Katie temporarily on our team for a week, we decided she fits in nicely and she make us better, so we invited her to be a permanent team member for the remainder of this season,” said Miller. “Katie is a warm person, a hard worker and a pleasure to be around. This is quite the opportunity for Katie but a great gift for us as well.”
Gilderman and her new UMD teammates will travel to Erie, Penn. this weekend to face No. 1 Mercyhurst College. Game times are set for 6:00 p.m. Friday and 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
