BENILDE-ST. MARGARET'S CRAWFORD SIGNS ON WITH BASKETBALL BULLDOGS

Pete Crawford, a two-time All-North Suburban guard/forward from Benilde-St. Margaret's High School (Minn.), has signed a national letter of intent to attend and play basketball for the University of Minnesota Duluth in 2010-11.

The 6-5, 185-pound Crawford will be entering his third as a starter this winter with the Red Knights, who have qualified for the Minnesota State High School Class AAA Tournament in two of the past three season, including in 2008 when they brought home the championship trophy. As a junior, Crawford average 13.4 points and 6.0 rebounds a game. He also has excelled on the prep football field, earning all-conference recognition as a wide receiver this past fall.

"Pete is a strong inside-outside player who has excellent perimeter skills," said UMD head coach Gary Holquist. "He was a highly-recruited athlete and, by signing him early, we should hopefully be be able to attract some talented lane players to compliment him."

UMD, which finished with a 20-11 overall record in 2008-09, is 1-0 this season and is in Mankato, Minn. this weekend for the Minnesota State University-Pepsi Tip-Off tournment.
