PALKIE AND PLACE REPEAT AS ALL-AMERICANS SATURDAY AT NCAA II INDOORS

One day after helping the University of Minnesota Duluth distance medley relay team attain All-American status, both senior Liz Palkie and freshman Morgan Place repeated that achievement in individual competition Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of the University of Houston.

Palkie placed fourth in the 800-meter run finals with a school-record time of 2:10.65 while Place, a 2008 cross country All-American from Ellsworth, Wis., did likewise in the 5,000-meter run, finishing in 16:44.60 -- seven seconds better than the previous UMD mark which she set last month. In the process, the talented tandem became the first Bulldog females to ever earn All-American recognition in more than one event at the same indoor or outdoor national meet.

Palkie, a native of Carlton, Minn., was competing in the NCAA II indoors for a third straight season (she took second place in the 800 meters, setting the school record of 2:10.72 which she broke today).

UMD as a team finished with 16 points, good for 11th place.
