LAROCQUE EARNS A FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERCIAN NOD FROM THE BLUELINE

Sophomore defensman Jocelyne Larocque led the NCAA in scoring from the blueline for over eight weeks, and put up the most points from a University of Minnesota Duluth rear-guard since the 2002-2003 season.  But it was last week's announcement that Larocque was named a 2008-2009 RBK Division I First Team All-American that gives her a title no other Bulldog defenseman has ever held in program history.

Larocque -- a St. Anne, Manitoba native who will centralize with Team Canada ahead of the 2010 Olympics -- becomes the first rear-guard ever at UMD to be named a First Team All-American.  She joins Julianne Vasichek, twice named a Second Team All-American (2004-05 and 2003-04), as the only two defenseman to earn All-American honors as a Bulldog.

In 37 games this season, Larocque averaged 1.00 points per game with 37 points (4g, 33a).   UMD's lone All-WCHA First Team representative, Larocque is already the No. 5 UMD defensive scorer all-time with 63 points (8g, 55a), just three points shy of taking over the No. 4 slot currently owned by Satu Kiipeli (2000-04, 65 points).
