After collecting five points in a convincing weekend sweep of then-No. 3 Colorado College, University of Minnesota Duluth sophomore left winger Mike Connolly has been aptly bestowed with Western Collegiate Hockey Association Co-Offensive Player of the Week recognition.
Connolly, who shares the honor with University of North Dakota forward Jason Gregoire, figured in on three of UMD's five goals in a 5-2 win last Friday (Jan. 8), scoring once (the eventual game-winner) and assisting on two other tallies. He followed that up with a two-point night (one goal and one assist) in the rematch as the Bulldogs completed the series sweep with a 4-1 victory. The Calgary, Alberta, product was also an integral part of a power-play unit that cashed in on five of 11 opportunities over the weekend.
A 2008-09 WCHA All-Rookie Team pick, Connolly currently is tied for the WCHA scoring lead (league games only) -- with teamates Jack Connolly and Justin Fontaine -- and has eight goals and 16 assists in 20 games overall.
