1992-93 WCHA CHAMPIONS TO BE UMD'S GUESTS OF HONOR SATURDAY NIGHT

This season marks the 20th anniversary of the the University of Minnesota Duluth's last conquest of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association regular season title and this Saturday night (Oct. 27), members of the 1992-93 Bulldogs will be recognized during the first intermission of UMD's clash with the University of Wisconsin at AMSOIL Arena.

In addition to posting a 27-11-2 overall record and a 21-9-2 WCHA mark (for a .688 winning percentage, the fourth best in program history) that winter, the Bulldogs advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA tournament, where they fell 4-3 to eventual national runnerup Lake Superior State University. As a team, UMD set team records for home winning percentage (.945 off a remarkable 17-1-0 mark) and short handed goals (12) while producing one Hobey Baker Memorial Award finalist (then senior team captain and current Bulldog assistant coach Derek Plante), two All-Americans (Plante and defenseman Brett Hauer), four All-WCHA selections (Plante and Hauer on the first team, winger Chris Marinucci and defenseman Jon Rohloff on the second team), the WCHA Player of the Year (Plante) and the WCHA Student-Athlete of the Year (Hauer).  The Bulldogs, who were picked to finish third in the annual WCHA Coaches Poll that season, lost back-to-back games only once the entire year (they were swept in their season-opening series at Denver).

Over two dozen players and staff members from that 1992-93 club are expected to be on hand this Saturday.
