UMD'S LACQUETTE, SCHULER SWIPE GOLD

The University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team may hit the ice this weekend for its first game in over a month, but there were plenty of Bulldogs on national team duty over UMD's break.

Sophomore defenseman Brigette Lacquette struck gold with Canada's U-22 team this weekend in the Meco Cup, with Lacquette netting a goal and adding an assist in the gold medal game against Russia (an 8-3 win for Canada).  The native of Mallard, Manitoba had three points in the tournament, including two goals.

Bulldog assistant coach Laura Schuler, an assistant coach with Canada's U-18 quad, grabbed an overtime gold at the IIHF U-18 World Championship in Vierumaki, Finland on Saturday.

Three other current UMD players played in the Meco Cup with their respected national teams, including senior forward Pernilla Winberg, who had one goal for Sweden, rookie forward Marie Delarbre, who had an assist for Germany and sophomore blueliner Tea Villila, who suited up with Finland.

Three other former Bulldogs were on Meco Cup rosters, including goaltender Jenny Harss with Germany, defenseman Jenni Asserholt with Sweden and Iya Gavrilova with Russia.

UMD gets back into the swing of the WCHA this weekend when St. Cloud State pays a visit to AMSOIL Arena on Saturday and Sunday.  Both games, including Saturday's second-annual "Pink Game", are slated to start at 3:07 p.m.
