Box Score The University of Minnesota Duluth scored three goals in the first period Friday and as it turned out, it was all the Bulldogs would need to get by Ohio State University.

The Bulldogs defeated the Buckeyes 3-2 at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio, improving to 5-4-2 overall and 3-4-2 in the rough and tumble Western Collegiate Hockey Association.  

Senior winger Jamie Kenyon put UMD on the board first 7:43 into the openin stanza with a wrist shot from the slot that beat OSU netminder Chelsea Knapp high glove side.  Almost seven minutes later, rookie blueliner Lara Stalder put the Bulldogs up 2-0 with her fourth tally of the year, and with just 13 seconds remaining in the period, Jenna McParland buried her own rebound to extend UMD's lead to 3-0.

Buckeye Kaite Matheny beat Bulldog goaltender Kayla Black 1:17 into the second, and a power-play goal by Sara Schmitt 4:34 drew OSU to within a single goal, but Black was stellar between the pipes for the rest of the game.  The Buckeyes outshot UMD 19-14 in the final two periods and 31-22 in the game, and both teams were called for 24 minutes of infractions.

Both teams will close out the series at Schottenstein Saturday afternoon.  The puck will drop at 2:07 p.m.
