The University of Minnesota Duluth closed out its non-conference schedule on Tuesday night, falling to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside by an 83-70 final in Kenosha, Wis.
UMD finish 2-2 outside the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference before beginning league play this weekend. Junior guard
Reece Zoelle led the way for the Bulldogs with 26 points on the night, while seniors
Jordan Reetz and
Peter Crawford also hit double digits with 17 and 14, respectively.
"Reece had a good game for us, scored some big points. Crawford had a nice game as well," said head coach
Matt Bowen after the game. "Obviously, those two are key to our success."
Zygimantas Riauka led the way for Parkside (5-1) with 21 points. Five Rangers hit double-figures scoring on the night. Riauka led both teams with eight rebounds on the night. Crawford, who also had eight assists, joined junior Jack Connors with six boards to lead UMD.
"Obviously, it's disappointing. They hit a hot streak that we just couldn't overcome tonight," said Coach Bowen. "Our perimeter scoring has been good ... but we've fallen behind early, it happened again tonight. We need to come out up-tempo and get things going early."
The Bulldogs open NSIC play on Saturday against St. Cloud State University. The Huskies were chosen to finish first in the NSIC North in the Coaches' Preseason Poll. The action is set to tip off at 4:00 p.m.
