The University of Minnesota Duluth clinched the third seed in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament, and with it, a first-round home game Wednesday evening, as the Bulldogs defeated the University of Minnesota Crookston by a 3-1 final at Malosky Stadium to close out the regular season.

UMD (13-4, 12-3 NSIC) will receive a rematch with sixth-seed Bemidji State on Wednesday after a 1-0 battle went the way of the Beavers last Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs received a pair of goals from their back-line in defeating the Golden Eagles (3-11-4, 1-10-4 NSIC) to remain undefeated at Malosky Stadium at 8-0-0 in 2013.

Junior Kelli Klun netted her third of the season, a 35-yard laser that turned into the corner of the net to put UMD up in the 25th minute, with junior forward Maureen Stormont earning the assist. Just under seven minutes later, another junior defender, Riley Allen, netted her second of the year, a header off a Hannah Keil corner kick to put UMD up by two scores. Just after the 36th minute, the junior midfielder Keil netted her first of the year, an arcing corner kick that curved into the far upper corner of the net to put the Bulldogs up by three.

Minnesota Crookston challenged UMD in the second half with Erin Mears netting her first of the year, but the UMD defense and sophomore goalkeeper Marissa Rosa kept them off the board the rest of the way. On the afternoon, Rosa finished with five saves. Golden Eagle goalkeeper Lexie Gauger had seven. UMD finished with 19 shots including ten on goal while holding Crookston to 11 and six on-target.

The Bulldogs will have a quick turnaround time as they return to the pitch at Malosky Stadium to take on the Beavers on Wednesday evening as the quarterfinals of the NSIC tournament kicks off at 5:00 p.m.
